The Coronation Collection

Available for purchase during Coronation Week, Tribal Immunity's Coronation Collection gives a new meaning to royal garments. This collection combined the traditional with contemporary. Carefully hand-painted, the pieces in this collection were first inspired by the Coronation Day of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I and HIM Empress Menen Asfaw on 2nd November 1930. The creation in the collection also pay homage to His Majesty's various roles as statesman, Educator, and ruler.

Pieces include the "Intellect" shirts, which replicate the cap and gown worn by Haile Selassie during the first graduation ceremony of Haile Selassie I University in 1962, as well as the Divine Star earrings, which replicate the Star of David designs that decorated His welcoming podium on his visit to Yugoslavia in 1966.

The true star of theis collection are the intricately hand-painted Coronation Dashiki T-shirts. These shirts were specifically designed in celebration of His and Her Majesties' Coronation Day. Reasonably priced, these pieces look great alone, with jeans, or under a blazer.

Beyonce Gone Mad, Again.

I’m convinced that much of humanity has lost their morals and common sense.

I’m hearing that either this was a tribute to Fela Kuti or African culture as a whole. This really doesn’t make me feel any better that Jay-Z co-produced the broadway play Fela!…

I wonder what Fela himself would say about this mockery???…

Film: RiseUp

"RiseUp!! This documentary is unlike any documentary about Jamaica as it takes the viewer off the beaten path far from any tourist attractions and sandy beaches yet still able to capture the beauty and magic that the Irie has to offer. From the deep countryside to the whirlwind ghettos of Kingston, no matter where you are, the film makes it evident that reggae music is the heartbeat of the culture."

Mandela's 46664 Fashion Label

The ideas of a fashion line in Nelson Mandela's honor have been in the works for years now and will soon become a reality to people in South Africa, the US, and the UK. The new fashion line that will be called 46664 Apparel, after the number Mr Mandela wore in jail. According to the Nelson Mandela Foundation profits will go to the 46664 charity and the label is intended to boost the clothing industry in South Africa. The clothes will include everyday wear items and couture outfits that are similar to Mandela's own personal style. The men and women's line is being designed by South Africa's biggest textile and clothing manufacturer, Seardel, and is to be launched in South Africa in August, with a shop in Johannesburg and eventually stores in the US and the UK next year.

For the past few years, people have been trying to preserve the legacy of the aging Nelson Mandela. While this is claimed to be an attempt to boost the South African economy, this seems like another attempt to overly glorify the first president of SA. One must also consider how this glorification has been used to coverup the reality of millions of Black South Africans, who continue to be persecuted in post-apartheid SA.

I-Octane: Sickkk...

Name: Byiome "I-Octane" Muir
Origins: Sandy Bay, Clarendon, Jamaica
Influences: Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Spragga Benz, Assasin, etc.
Similar Artists: Garnett Silk, Luciano, Warrior King, Zamunda, Munga

One of the most talented and innovative artists of his time I-Octane will most likely be added to the honorary list of Reggae and Dancehall legends. Only in his early 20s, his music is a breath of fresh air to those looking for an artist who fuses culture with a contemporary sound in order to fuel his message. With hits like "Lose a Friend", "My Life", "Bloodstain", and "This is Real [Pressure]" I-Octane uses his naturally raspy yet melodic voice to advocate against issues including poverty, violence and the struggles of African people. We are looking forward to hearing more from this young artist, who seems to be taking over the Reggae world one hit after another.

FREE BUJU!

I am not the only one who has grown up to Buju Banton's music and I am not the only one who feels the impact of his resent confrontation with Babylon. Banton was granted bail on on Wednesday, December 10th and walked out of the Tampa, Bay jail that he has resided since December 2009. A jury of 12 members was unable to make a unanimous decision in September and he will be retried in February of 2012.

It is a pity that we have to see one of our own like this, but as Africans, we know that war is not an option and that battle is a constant reality.  There have been several 'Free Buju' campaigns created worldwide, and unlike some other artists who fall into legal trouble in the U.S. Buju has a sincere following, with artists like Spragga Benz taking donations for Banton's legal fees, and Stephen Marley, who put up his $300,000 house as collateral. Fashion has also assited in fundraising, with the very popular FREE BUJU t-shirts circulating. With that being said, I always appreciate African people coming together in the name of justice.

Kenyan Hip Hop: Real, Royal, and Revolutionary!

Music is universal, and for Africans, we use music as a form of communication to the rest of our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Kenyan Hip Hop is no different. Bringing Reggae and Hip Hop styles back to the origin, artists like Ukoo Flani Mau Mau and Nazizi have become international Blackstars with their music [spoken in a mixture of Kiswahili, local slang Sheng, and English]. You could easily believe that these videos were shot in totally different locations in the world, just change the language.

What I find inspirational about these artists is also there strong sense of identity. Heavily influenced by the revolutionary history of Kenya, Pan-Africanism and Rastafari these artists are doing what many Africans worldwide are afraid to do, and that is continuing the legacy of our ancestors. Real, Royal,  and Revolutionary!
